The husband, already a car enthusiast, started a hobby that would soon become a part of his daily routine. Their old car, a 1987 Chrysler Lebaron, was his guinea pig. He is highly meticulous when cleaning. He wouldn't leave a spot, and a simple almost-invisible watermark annoys him. This was when friends and other people around them started noticing his skills in car detailing.</div><div><br /></div><div><div>In 2016, they started reselling a new and promising line of car cleaning products. With the husband's skills in car care and the wife's background in social media marketing and search engine optimization, their inventory gradually increased over a few months. Customers started coming and offering money to detail their cars. Some were booking appointments to have their car washed. The husband took the jobs without any employees and got everything done single-handedly.</div><div><br /></div><div>Then the pandemic in 2020 happened. All establishments closed. Since their family had already moved to a new house, the couple took the opportunity to renovate the garage and yard to make it look like a real shop instead of the dilapidated home where they used to live.</div><div><br /></div><div>When the restrictions eased up, they officially re-opened <a href="https://www.facebook.com/nanoworxcarcare" target="_blank">Nanoworx Car Care</a>. <br />
I used to write short poems when I was in grade school. I got an invitation to join a conference in Washington D.C. from Poetry.com 20 years ago. Since I was a young and competitive student back then and missing school wasn’t a great idea, I couldn’t go since the conference was scheduled for August 2000.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br /><div>Shortly after that, life happened. New hobbies had emerged, and I no longer had the time and inspiration to write. It was easier to imagine and make beautiful assumptions about the magic of love and life when you haven't experienced them yet. Oh, the perks of being young!</div><div><br /></div><div>Twenty years had passed. I'm already married with two amazing kids. One day, when we were picking up some stuff from our old house, I decided to use my eldest son's old notebook to draft some learning activities he could do when we got home.</div><div><br /></div><div>After finishing up, I noticed that my husband had fallen asleep while waiting for me. My mobile phone's battery was dead, but the pencil and the notebook were still in my hands. What else could I do while giving my husband enough time to rest?</div><div><br /></div><div>Then I started to feel this weird sensation on my chest, that feeling that I've been missing something- something I used to do.</div><div><br /></div><div>And there, in less than 5 minutes, I came up with a short poem for my eldest son. It wasn't perfect. But hey- this came from a mom's heart who struggled with infertility for eight years!</div>
<br />
<br />
<i>A Poem for You, My Son</i><br />
<i><br /></i><div><i>It all started when you were just a dream</i></div><div><i>It's like a battle that was impossible to win</i></div><div><i>I never thought that this dream would soon be</i></div><div><i>the greatest blessing God has given me.</i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><i>The first time I heard you cry</i></div><div><i>All I could think of was to hug you tight</i></div><div><i>At that moment, I knew I had to wait for the right time</i></div><div><i>to finally meet and welcome you to my life.</i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><i>A hundred years may pass, but you'll always be my son</i></div><div><i>My baby, my life, my miracle one.</i></div><div><i>And someday, when the time comes and that I'd be gone</i></div><div><i>I'd always be with you, no matter who you become.</i></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6271886187037855806.post-79566359538252431872020-02-17T03:20:00.004+08:002022-07-24T01:02:34.190+08:00Lost in Pain (from my Father's Death)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<img alt="casket" height="480" id="id_63a3_8c59_dff3_b4ff" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/dWXEBjQQFIFrRWCJF6Ul9EgcJxFlEh9iY2fz-NpFlaHsxN3BtmsL0jus6crJko8" style="height: auto; width: 640px;" title="casket" width="640" /></div>
<br />
One of the worst things that could happen to a daughter occurred to me. And for the first time in my life, I have no idea how to deal with such pain- a pain that’s slowly poisoning the people around me and me.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
My 87-year-old father died last February 8, 2020, at precisely 12:32 am.<br />
<br />
<img alt="prayer for the dead" height="480" id="id_ed19_e24b_ecce_2605" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/NEJqTpQO9mUh-L0t6CweZUymKWVjazAY3qqTlRKPxeV7uiTy8-vvb56-AexmVeE" style="height: auto; width: 640px;" title="prayer for the dead" width="640" /><br />
<br /><div>He had been bedridden for almost five years already. He had a few health issues, but the main problem was his heart. He was capable of having a stroke anytime, so we decided to have him under my sister’s supervision in Manila. She’s a doctor with many “doctor friends,” and her house is accessible to many good hospitals like the National Kidney Institute, Philippine Heart Center, etc.</div><div><br /></div><div>For five years, he was in and out of the hospital. At home, he had two caregivers. Since he had NGT, his daily routine was strict. They gave all his medicines on time, and he had a weekly check-up.</div><div><br /></div><div>Since I live 124 kilometers away, I only got to visit him every once in a while. My eldest son goes to school daily, and my husband has a business open seven days a week. But whenever we got the chance, we would always see him.</div><div><br /></div><div>Lately, his speech had become slurred, and we couldn’t understand his words. His 87th birthday was last month (January 6, 2020); that was the last time I saw him alive. When the celebration was over, and I told him we were going home, he stared at me with his “leaving so soon??” eyes. I assured him we would revisit him soon and kiss his forehead (our family doesn’t say “I love you” or do kisses like other families... so that was special).</div><div><br /></div><div>If only I knew what would happen a month later, I would have hugged him.</div><div><br /></div><div>But the thing is - I was preparing myself for years now. I was afraid to get hurt when the time came, so I was slowly detaching myself. I’m a daddy’s girl, and I couldn’t imagine my life without him ever since. But I was wrong. Nothing can prepare anyone for things like this, especially for the death of a parent.</div><div><br /></div><div>My dad died in the arms of my sister and his caregivers. I was not there when it happened. My sister called me and requested us to come immediately. My husband and I immediately went home to pick up my mom and our kids, packed our things, and went straight to Manila.</div><div><br /></div><div>The next thing I knew, we were already arranging his funeral, cremation, and inurnment. The night before his 3-day viewing, I was glad to get the chance to hold his hand for the last time.</div>
<br />
<img alt="holding dead hand" height="640" id="id_39ef_d341_3a2c_1eb9" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/M_WwdwSJxgq0Bq4p85hS5ZeHPN540t8nMKYAsdbB7fg7N_0Jpvzg9l3bz7kB--A" title="holding dead hand" tooltip="" width="640" /><br />

<br />
I got myself an ash pendant so I can keep him close to my heart all the time.<br />
<br />
<img alt="ash pendant" height="640" id="id_57d_8034_cec1_743" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/S0PhLU_wbil1Ou80rRiqrlM2FQR7f8UTshXA-5Rf7n_2ukLdzqGC6QoNqNX-cv0" style="height: auto; width: 640px;" title="ash pendant" width="640" /><br />
<br /><div>Until today, I still couldn’t get the chance to grieve. It seems like his death hasn’t sunk in yet. But I would never see him anymore- and this thought is slowly killing me every day. I can’t cry; I don’t know how. But the people around me are already affected by my uncontrollable mood swings. For the first time in my life, I ran out of ideas to deal with these feelings.</div><div><br /></div><div>I miss my father. I want to see him in my dreams and be able to talk to him.</div><div><br /></div><div>Is this normal? Am I losing it? Every night when everyone’s already sleeping, the pain worsens. And the most challenging thing is I don’t know how to tell people how I’m feeling. Maybe this was because of those years of holding everything in, shutting my feelings down. But I know that this is different; this should be different.</div><div><br /></div><div>I know that I should seek help. But how? I couldn’t even figure out where to start.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6271886187037855806.post-30347877809358663622019-09-16T18:28:00.003+08:002022-07-24T00:54:10.744+08:00Communication Then and Now: Thoughts as a 90's Kid<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /><div>As a fan of the '90s, you can't deny that social media has become a great help— reconnecting to everyone, keeping us updated daily with what's happening to our loved ones, and most importantly, making communication more accessible than ever.</div><div><br /></div><div>Here are some throwbacks to how we communicated during the '90s.</div>
<br />

<h3>
No Smartphones Yet</h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXvDeu_z2xbaSEnteTcuTeu7IdqS0ErhJnZ6kRda-2-1UFLmzpnKpdtlHwe5mInfQvnhe2R_qUizjtS0ZkbvfYk56EnYKHhcAE-1FbWm4JFSFiOi0xBng0OfUXaVcIH_nx1-KWgqsRtS8/s1600/Nokia+5110.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Cellphones" border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXvDeu_z2xbaSEnteTcuTeu7IdqS0ErhJnZ6kRda-2-1UFLmzpnKpdtlHwe5mInfQvnhe2R_qUizjtS0ZkbvfYk56EnYKHhcAE-1FbWm4JFSFiOi0xBng0OfUXaVcIH_nx1-KWgqsRtS8/s400/Nokia+5110.jpg" title="Cellphones" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /><div>I remember the times before Friendster became a thing. We didn’t have smartphones yet; we only had plain mobile phones to text or call people. We had to save from our school allowance to load our prepaid sims. Having no load felt like I was living on a deserted island alone.</div><div><br /></div><div>Imagine, my mom used to give me P60 to P80 a day for school. The minimum worth of prepaid load back then was P30/day for the unlimited text promo - no calls. No wonder I was thin back in college!</div><div><br /></div><div>Today, almost everyone has a smartphone. Even my favorite fish vendor in our public market uses an iPhone 5s. Wifi access is the only thing we need now to contact anyone through Facebook Messenger, Facetime, Viber, etc. We don’t have to spend a lot on long-distance calls anymore. Therefore, I’m wondering - what happened to those phone operators who used to “connect us” when we were trying to do long-distance or collect calls? I’m sure that whatever happened to them decades ago, it wasn’t easy for them and the families they’re feeding.</div>
<h3>
Having an Internet Connection at Home Was a Luxury</h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih79Ak62F3o0_7EYZBOxLQtF4eWKtJt3Em8NQfOp_JR1ORiXXNNOdD9ta1XuDkQXD0ZimBwGto6dNnFIdutwyW0AAa8p3P1k3r-6qZNlN3jgBLRf9_sOAY2NxmMUJjzEJoE1o6YdDDb1Q/s1600/internet+prepaid+card.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Internet Prepaid Card" border="0" data-original-height="192" data-original-width="300" height="256" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih79Ak62F3o0_7EYZBOxLQtF4eWKtJt3Em8NQfOp_JR1ORiXXNNOdD9ta1XuDkQXD0ZimBwGto6dNnFIdutwyW0AAa8p3P1k3r-6qZNlN3jgBLRf9_sOAY2NxmMUJjzEJoE1o6YdDDb1Q/s400/internet+prepaid+card.jpg" title="Internet Prepaid Card" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /><div>More than ten years ago, dial-up internet connection was a thing. It was prepaid, so we had to buy prepaid cards to load to check our Friendster and Myspace accounts. The speed was horrible, but since we didn't have a choice back then, we were already satisfied.</div><div><br /></div><div>If we didn't have at least P100 to buy a prepaid card, we would go to the nearest internet shop (P40 per hour) to check if we had new messages on Friendster.</div>
<br />
<h3>
Bye-Bye Landline Phones?</h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn7XbyFQNjj3sBBBYHwnAdYuKE8o4JZ66fcSuBcDhmq3QzeSmBQlRspQvkJd76-I8DUHxR4kiT2OgrDSeQu7HCFikF3kyE3q4uwLW5i0HD5jUMCxhcpfXGzGXLnaUf_gZau001piArZBc/s1600/telephone.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="telephone" border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn7XbyFQNjj3sBBBYHwnAdYuKE8o4JZ66fcSuBcDhmq3QzeSmBQlRspQvkJd76-I8DUHxR4kiT2OgrDSeQu7HCFikF3kyE3q4uwLW5i0HD5jUMCxhcpfXGzGXLnaUf_gZau001piArZBc/s400/telephone.jpeg" title="telephone" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /><div>Even landline phones are slowly fading nowadays. 90% of my friends and relatives no longer see the need for having landline phones at home. Even local businesses now prefer using mobile phones (what’s the point if most of their customers don’t have landlines, anyway).</div><div><br /></div><div>More than 20 years ago, having a landline at home was a must. Only well-off business people and professionals had mobile phones or pagers. I remember when we were in Grade school, “telebabad” and “party line” were a thing. When PLDT released 3-way calling, call-waiting, and caller ids, I pressured my mom to avail those features to be “in.”</div><div><br /></div><div>And who could forget the large payphones inside the malls?</div>
<br />
<h3>
Love Letters Were Really a Thing</h3>

<br /><div>I'm pretty sure our kids will no longer deal with the problem of choosing the best-smelling stationery paper from the store or creating a parent-proof container of love letters. I remember receiving many letters from people, especially every Valentine's Day. The most creative one would win a spot inside my customized shoe box.</div><div><br /></div><div>Responding to a love letter would send the man an unspoken message that he could take the next step in courting the girl. If a girl didn't respond, that would be the equivalent of today's "seen zoning." </div><div><br /></div><div>Now, courting has already become digital. A suitor's effort today is measured by how often he would engage with her or even flaunt her via social media.</div><div><br /></div><div>As a 90's kid, I'm proud to say that I got to experience all of these until college. Don't get me wrong, since I have nothing against this era. Yes, the internet and social media made communication more accessible and closer to everyone - and I'm grateful for that. But I'll also be forever thankful that I met the love of my life before the social media craze happened. Otherwise, our love story would be much different and maybe less romantic than it was.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6271886187037855806.post-58133663067498140602019-04-02T00:02:00.002+08:002022-07-24T00:45:56.664+08:00Kidsafe Philippines GPS Watch for Kids Review<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div><div>Unfortunately, we can't monitor our kids 24/7. We can't hang out along the corridors at school and watch our kids take their classes. In public places, even when your grip is as tight as the Hulk's, kids could still find a way to escape from your hands and sight.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div><div>With all the recent child abductions and crimes involving children happening around the country right now, I decided to look for a reliable device tracker for my son.</div><div><br /></div><div>That's when I came across a Facebook post from a page called Kidsafe Philippines. I got curious since I found the first GPS Smartwatch for kids was 50% more expensive than this one.</div><div><br /></div><div>Since my husband sports a black Series 4 Apple Watch, I purchased the same color for my son's watch because he idolizes his dad. This way, he wouldn't refuse to wear it. So I chose the Classic variant.</div><div><br /></div><div>The only thing about Kidsafe Philippines' classic GPS watch is that it's not waterproof, unlike the blue and pink variants. Unfortunately, after receiving it, I only learned about this lack of feature.</div><div><br /></div><div>It's still helpful in tracking and communicating with my son. I use the tracking feature every time he's at his tutorial class (you know, to be sure). He calls us every after class to pick him up.</div><div><br /></div><div>I purchased a Globe plan with unlimited Globe-to-Globe calls and 1.5GB of internet. I didn't want the hassle of removing the sim card and inserting it into a phone to load and register from time to time. In case you ask, the watch doesn't send and receive SMS. It's okay, though - there's no reason for a 5-year-old to text people.</div><div><br /></div><div>Other important details you may ask:</div><div>1. I purchased it directly from their Shopee account</div><div>2. The price I paid for this classic GPS Smartwatch is P2,150 (plus a P100 shipping fee)</div><div>3. The app used for controlling and tracking the watch is called SeTracker2. It's available on Google Play Store and App Store.</div><div>4. If you prefer the waterproof variant, don't purchase the classic one (black). Go for their Splash variants (IP67 Waterproof).</div><div>5. The watch is an "open line." You can choose any network you want.</div><div>6. The Globe plan I have for my son's watch costs P599/month (unlimited Globe to Globe calls plus 1.5GB internet).</div><div>7. There's no compensation for doing this review. :)</div></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkCxnFfSwdPCmjThp4ZEy4obNlyTha6xfPB4BxCVRefIoRMQg36W4yljdAFgz-Ryclm6UsuFyrsskNHBpSr_oKmzA8kAuR3_4oJFOZOVfvqkqLHqF1VZ-N5O8b4G5-gIaCUR-dxisNLVc/s1600/harmful+youtube+videos+for+kids.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="harmful youtube videos for kids" border="0" data-original-height="493" data-original-width="960" height="328" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkCxnFfSwdPCmjThp4ZEy4obNlyTha6xfPB4BxCVRefIoRMQg36W4yljdAFgz-Ryclm6UsuFyrsskNHBpSr_oKmzA8kAuR3_4oJFOZOVfvqkqLHqF1VZ-N5O8b4G5-gIaCUR-dxisNLVc/s640/harmful+youtube+videos+for+kids.jpg" title="harmful youtube videos for kids" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As I had mentioned <a href="http://www.anjspeaks.life/2018/02/4-year-old-son-suffering-too-much-screen-time.html" target="_blank">in my previous post</a>, my son used to be addicted to gadgets. His favorite app was Youtube; to be honest, I was one of the moms who thought there would be no harm since I modified the app settings and all. But, again, like other moms - I was wrong.<br />
<div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div><div>When Momo Challenge became viral last month, I was waiting for the other evil stuff lurking on so-called “child-friendly videos” on Youtube to be published, too. Since Momo was the only one that became popular, I’ll share some evil stuff that my then 4-year-old son had encountered on Youtube. These, unlike the Momo Challenge, are not hoaxes.</div><div><br /></div><div>Are you still letting your kids watch Youtube? You might want to see these first. (Warning: Don’t watch these videos with your kids)</div></div>
<div>
<h4>
1. Some Peppa Pig Videos</h4>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/mN8_vkIUZjU/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/mN8_vkIUZjU?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
At first glance, you may think there's nothing wrong with this Peppa Pig video. Just watch and listen. Remember - don't watch this when your kids are around.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<h4>
2. Some Bendy and the Ink Machine Videos</h4>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/97eGfI5mCFw/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/97eGfI5mCFw?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I was trying to look for the exact video my son used to watch. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find it anymore. It was scarier and more violent. My niece said it looked like the character was praying to Satan. The tune could attract kids, but don’t let it fool you. Listen to the lyrics. You wouldn’t want your kids to sing that song in front of other people.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
3. Dumb Ways to Die Videos</h4>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/IJNR2EpS0jw/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/IJNR2EpS0jw?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div>
Seriously, what level of evil would put this on Youtube? I remember hearing this song while my son was on Youtube. I ran and blocked the video (and all other similar videos) right away.</div>
<div>
<br />
There’s even a 12-hour loop of this available!<br />
<br />
<h4>
4. Mickey Mouse themed Videos</h4>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/fv138sVVhRU/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fv138sVVhRU?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<br /><div>If I’m a kid who just watched this video, I may want to try to set my sibling or playmate on fire like what the characters did here. After all, they’re smiling! What could go wrong?</div><div><br /></div><div>Yep. That’s total sarcasm. Parents, please!</div>
<br />
<h4>
5. Some Innocent-Looking Cartoons with Porn Inserts</h4><div>One day my son was watching a Youtube Video about alphabets and colors when two Disney characters suddenly appeared, and they were having sex! That was the last time I let my son use his iPad.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'm having a hard time looking for these videos. But I will update this as soon as I find one.</div>
<br />
<h4>
6. Dudes Playing Live Video Games</h4><div>While I'm not getting this trend, kids seem to love these videos of people playing video games while filming (or live streaming). Aside from the violence (their games may show), their choice of words while playing is proven harmful to small kids. There was a time when my son was in school, and he suddenly shouted, "What the f*(|<!". Since no one here at home uses this specific curse word, I asked him multiple times where he had learned it. One day he admitted that he heard it from Youtube. To think that the last time he watched on Youtube was already more than six months before that incident!</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>We all know how easy it is to use Youtube. Only one click and you would no longer have control over whatever your kid is watching. Fortunately, you can control the app they are using.</div><div><br /></div><div>Youtube and Youtube Kids are no longer safe for them. If you can't make them stop using gadgets, download appropriate apps and videos for them to use and watch offline. Turn off their Wifi Settings and monitor their every activity.</div><div><br /></div><div>It wasn't an easy ride when we made our son stop using gadgets. Whenever he saw my iPad, he cried like there was no tomorrow. But we didn't give in. We sold the iPad, and eventually, he learned how to play with his toys as every kid should do.</div></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />

<div>
<br /></div><div>Yesterday was my son's last day in Kindergarten. As soon as the ceremony was over, his teacher sent me a text to thank us. Then she opened up and mentioned that my son, who was a little bully since Day 1, significantly improved his overall attitude and socialization with his classmates and teachers.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div><div>This is the first time I'm going to talk about this publicly. My four-year-old son was labeled as a "troublemaker in the making" since the start of the school year. He wasn't listening to his teachers, refusing to join the class activities, and worst - hitting his classmates for no reason.</div><div><br /></div><div>At first, I was in denial. My heart broke when I first heard the news. A lot of thoughts came to my head:</div><div><br /></div><div><i>"This was his first time to go to school. He had no experience with proper socialization, following other people's orders, etc.".</i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><i>"Or maybe, it was because he couldn't express his feelings adequately because his vocabulary was still limited back then."</i></div><div><br /></div><div>But then it hit me - something must be wrong with him or us.</div><div><br /></div><div>We talked to him every single day. The daily 7-minute drive to school was always me reminding him how to be a "good boy." He even memorized and told his teacher my everyday speech - "No fighting. No hitting. Always listen and follow your teachers."</div><div><br /></div><div>Then, one day, I was picking him up from school, and his teachers approached and invited me to their classroom to "talk." While walking to the room, multiple scenarios played in my head. But in the back of my mind, I was sure what it was all about - my son's bad behavior.</div><div><br /></div><div>They told me that some of the parents were already complaining about my child's hitting. Then they finally dug deeper and asked me some personal questions I had never imagined that might relate to his behavior at school.</div></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
“What is his behavior at home?”<br />
“Does he have a younger sibling?”<br />
“Do you spend more time with his sister than him?”<br />
“Are you or his dad hurting him?”<br />
“Is he addicted to gadgets or tv?”<br />
“What’s his favorite TV show?”<br />
“Do you give him adult responsibilities?”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
After concluding that one reason could be the “latest addition to the family,” I asked them for a one-week vacation for my son. They agreed since we’re just two weeks away from sem break.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
What We Did</h3>
<div><div>I made a mental note of the questions the teachers asked. From those pointers, we made a massive change at home.</div><div><br /></div><div>First, we told him the truth. We made him understand that some of his classmates’ parents were angry at him, and he was taking a break because he had to improve his attitude.</div><div><br /></div><div>We started to make ways for the two siblings to bond. We also paid extra attention to his sharing ability. Honestly, this was one of the hardest things to correct. Whenever he tried to steal toys from his sister’s hands or refused to share, we would warn him immediately.</div><div><br /></div><div>We also made sure that everything, including time, was pretty divided to both of them. This might sound like a piece of cake to some people, but the truth is, it’s not. If you have two kids, one of them is a 1-year-old walking bomb, then even the most perfect parent you know would have a tough time. But we tried our best. That was when I asked my mother to stay with us every Monday to Friday to help us take care of our youngest.</div><div><br /></div><div>No handheld devices! We had already made him stop using gadgets even before school started. We became very attentive to the shows he was watching on television. We made him stop watching Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon. Disney Junior, Baby TV, Your Baby Can Read, Baby Einstein / Little Einstein, and Mother Goose Club were the only ones allowed to play on our TV.</div><div><br /></div><div>As for the responsibilities, yes. A lot has changed. He’s now washing his hands and private part, getting his clothes from the cabinet, putting them on, cleaning up his toys, and cleaning his toy car on his own.</div><div><br /></div><div>We gradually see his improvement. He’s now being a big brother to her sister. Sometimes, I pretend to be busy, so I can ask him to watch over her sister. He has matured a lot.</div><div><br /></div><div>Baby-ing and spoiling can indeed be harmful to small kids. Giving them responsibilities and proper attention and exposing them to real-life situations would help them prepare for the real world.</div></div><div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFlOBnPNbDmI_pL5Mz0eHJeS8RcYmTjyMS5TIwQU0-jRV6xq0nm7BQXj37ADALx7UuXstu9qQJsOwuYEF8wAEOQj1SRfd-JoEGtA_0lXa6u5GV1NLw50v3qaQ87KkY3Y3lRjQ5rUypaPg/s1600/bitter-gourdgohya.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="ampalaya bitter gourd for baby" border="0" data-original-height="1208" data-original-width="1600" height="482" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFlOBnPNbDmI_pL5Mz0eHJeS8RcYmTjyMS5TIwQU0-jRV6xq0nm7BQXj37ADALx7UuXstu9qQJsOwuYEF8wAEOQj1SRfd-JoEGtA_0lXa6u5GV1NLw50v3qaQ87KkY3Y3lRjQ5rUypaPg/s640/bitter-gourdgohya.jpg" title="ampalaya bitter gourd for baby" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Since my eldest son is an extremely picky eater, I researched what to do with my youngest daughter before she had her first solid food. I knew I couldn’t find real answers on the internet, so I asked a lot of grandparents and doctors what to do.</div>
<div>
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div>
<br /><div>Many of the grandparents I asked said I should start introducing solid foods as early as four months, while many doctors said that being a picky-eater is in the genes. While I agree with the latter, I knew there must be a trick to prevent or lessen the chances of my youngest being picky with food, just like her brother.</div><div><br /></div><div>During my daughter’s 3rd-month routine check-up, her pediatrician shared something I never thought would work. She advised me to give mashed potato with ampalaya juice/extract as my baby’s first solid food in her 6th month. According to her, the baby won’t like the taste, and 3 to 5 teaspoonfuls per meal will be enough. The goal is not to satisfy her tummy but to trigger the “bitterness sensation” on her taste buds.</div><div><br /></div><div>It made sense. With my son, I gave him carrot purée as his first solid food. Of course, carrots are slightly sweet, which may explain his ultimate love for sweets. Hey, this is just my hunch.</div><div><br /></div><div>A chart online says that we can only give mashed potatoes to older babies. I ignored it and followed the doctor’s advice. After all, she’s a pediatrician!</div><div><br /></div><div>So the big day came. My daughter was already six months and a half. I bought the best potatoes and ampalaya (bitter gourd) from the grocery. When I got home, I cleaned it and removed the seeds. I boiled it with Absolute Distilled Water for 20 minutes. After straining and cooling down the ampalaya/bitter gourd, I squeezed it and mixed the extract with the mashed potato.</div><div><br /></div><div>My baby didn’t like the taste, but I managed to give her at least five teaspoonfuls of it. After all, babies at this age get all their nutrition from milk (whether it’s breastmilk or formula milk). I’m an exclusive breastfeeding mom, so I never worried about it.</div><div><br /></div><div>I fed her this food for three straight days. After that, I already her avocados, bananas, carrots, apples, squash, etc. She loved all of them! At 11 months, she already preferred our homecooked dishes mixed with rice.</div><div><br /></div><div>She’s now 18 months, and it’s safe to say that we’re still not having any problems feeding her.</div><div><br /></div><div>I’m not claiming that this will work for everyone. But this worked for my baby, so I wanted to share this.</div></div>

<br /></div><div>Since having coffee is already a part of our routine whenever we go to Pampanga, we decided to try a new cafe in the area. I quickly did a Google search, and we found G Cafe located in Clark.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div><div>We were the only customers when we got there, and I loved it. Finally, we can have coffee in peace. (If you're a fan of crowded and extremely noisy cafes, try Starbucks in Berthaphil, Clark).</div><div><br /></div><div>According to one of the staff, G Cafe (or Gaida Cafe) is already operating for more than eight years. It looks like they had just renovated the place to make every corner Instagram-friendly.</div></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
Since my hardworking husband has always been busy with his carwash business and my eldest was about to go to school this year, I decided to purchase a second-hand smaller car that I can personally use.<br />
<div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div>
We already have a family car, a Toyota Innova 2010. Since it's a manual tranny, I'm not confident driving it alone; plus, it's stressful to share things (what more with cars?) with my vain and O.C. husband.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Regina - Toyota Innova 2010 M/T" height="480" id="id_f421_e89f_6628_d1ae" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvl4kyDmFABYtlyCrJj3r8K-JEocF_sVmovs26hCmWyd5Qi0XJxTY059NoudqL8FYH2LNMDnzFkG42P2zQ1vXvRLQxNzTcNjiKAnH1-Q08asucpKNXafx_nIPCy25G1ibh0w9MoejJwdQ/s640/%255BUNSET%255D" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Regina - Toyota Innova 2010 M/T" tooltip="" width="640" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Regina, our Toyota Innova 2010 M/T</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br /></div>
<div>
After two to three months of non-stop searching, we finally found my first "solo car" last April 5, 2018. It's a 2008 Honda Civic FD 1.8s A/T. I named it after one of my favorite female characters on TV - Olivia Pope (our Toyota Innova was named after the Evil Queen in Once Upon a Time "Regina Mills").</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeQOPcUB02G34DKX6qxq3pZJ5SCHqDlv0H7NFNE5P7uok3qX4X1Nr7bl38ylNcHiZXplsfc4ggADoMeG-DWLb2n0JQLURJUaCs3sFVtNz_o4YkjybfuvlGbQD_AtjyD-aP3Wj1kQaSBq8/s1600/olivia+pope+gif.gif" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Olivia Pope GIF" border="0" data-original-height="342" data-original-width="618" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeQOPcUB02G34DKX6qxq3pZJ5SCHqDlv0H7NFNE5P7uok3qX4X1Nr7bl38ylNcHiZXplsfc4ggADoMeG-DWLb2n0JQLURJUaCs3sFVtNz_o4YkjybfuvlGbQD_AtjyD-aP3Wj1kQaSBq8/s400/olivia+pope+gif.gif" title="Olivia Pope GIF" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br /><div>For now, I can say that it's a good purchase. Aside from the Thermistor, Aircon Control Assembly, and a few minor scratches, which we had successfully removed with the car care products we're selling, there are no other significant issues.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'm excited that I've already added a few car accessories: dash camera, Type R pedals, multi-colored foot lamps, DRL and LED lights, 4-eye backup sensors, car door lock covers (to avoid rust), seatbelt pads, German leather steering wheel cover, original Rota mags, subframe, and an "ornamental" JDM tow hook.</div><div><br /></div><div>We also recently purchased an LED underglow, red Honda emblems, anti-moist side mirrors, and audio control for the wheel, but they're not installed yet. I am still waiting for one of my eldest's godfathers to visit and install them for free. Yup, it's a part of being a mom to become frugal from time to time!</div><div><br /></div><div>Unexpectedly, I'm becoming a bit obsessed with dressing Olivia up. The only limitation I'm having right now is the budget. Therefore, I think #ProjectOlivia will take a few more months or years to complete.</div><div><br /></div><div>Who knows? Maybe in a few years, there'll be a new set of body kits available because right now, my target is Type-R 2015 - and that's the latest on its line today. I'm not a fan of Spoon, CRZ, and Mugen body kits... so let's see.</div></div>
</div>

<br /><div>Usually, a restaurant's branches should follow the same theme, price, policy, recipe, and serving. I'm not sure if the management of Rustica Restaurant has something to do with this - but these two branches, Rustica Tarlac and Rustica Angeles City seem to belong in different worlds.</div><div><br /></div><div>We've been a fan of Rustica Restaurant, located at Concepcion in Tarlac, since 2014. Even though it's smaller than the branch in Angeles City, the place has this rustic and nostalgic aura. Aside from their delicious and authentic Filipino cuisine, the servings are significant and worth the price.</div><div><br /></div><div>Rustica Restaurant in Angeles City is bigger, brighter, and more accessible. It's a head turner for all passers-by. It has more customers since it's in Pampanga where people prioritize food quality more than the price. However, the serving size of the food we ordered (Sinigang na Halo, Buttered Shrimp, and Sisig) is noticeably smaller. Since we have a deep stomach and a strong desire to compare things, we were slightly disappointed. Our total bill of Php 1,800 plus wasn't worth the amount of serving. Fortunately, the quality was still excellent.</div>

<br />
<h3>
Verdict</h3>
We're sticking to Rustica Restaurant in Concepcion, Tarlac.<br />

Unexpectedly, this was one of our craziest restaurant experiences ever.<br /><a name='more'></a><br /><div>
The ambiance of this casual seafood dining restaurant is perfect for anyone celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or a mini-reunion. The place is spacious and bright. Most of the customers we saw there belong to what they call "Class A" and "Class B," and some foreigners.<br /><br /><img alt="Salt & Crab Seafood Dining in Clark, Pampanga" height="478" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-F7i8CmlICmQ/WpMcLE10iMI/AAAAAAAAEGA/s6BFbsb6ei0kzkpBFzUkWI_JPZoB6sZywCHMYCw/s640/%255BUNSET%255D" title="Salt & Crab Seafood Dining in Clark, Pampanga" width="640" /><br /><br />We ordered a Seafood Chowder for my picky-eater son, Tempura, Thermidor, a whole crab cooked in salted egg, and a platter of salted egg rice for my rice-lover husband. It took almost 15 minutes for our orders to arrive. They apologized, so the 15-minute waiting time isn't usually their thing.<br /><br /><img alt="Salt & Crab Seafood Dining in Clark, Pampanga - seafood chowder" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfQYseMvYHknvYdBjy_62KdHwR0HEKrwZfhrp2Wt7Wzi4uARXokZsMz7QxPap02cQRakxqUNH3cbrDUxVV9CNqvVmQ3Xp3zO2FxSCn_3bW9bCWIpqtSq24H-4SrPCfO6C1Obspo2ZlCQo/s640/%255BUNSET%255D" title="Salt & Crab Seafood Dining in Clark, Pampanga - seafood chowder" width="640" /><br /><br /><img alt="Salt & Crab Seafood Dining in Clark, Pampanga - tempura" height="480" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PRf5AqDLZ24/WpMcOmN4III/AAAAAAAAEGM/vjc10b3UpO8kW_8Txb3nz-6YEYxflPRXwCHMYCw/s640/%255BUNSET%255D" title="Salt & Crab Seafood Dining in Clark, Pampanga - tempura" width="640" /><br /><br /><img alt="Salt & Crab Seafood Dining in Clark, Pampanga - thermidor" height="480" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tvw7z5IX5zk/WpMcOb6Z_7I/AAAAAAAAEGI/gAionm2qBz4qwH2vZSRJWZPRSU8LbP7eQCHMYCw/s640/%255BUNSET%255D" title="Salt & Crab Seafood Dining in Clark, Pampanga - thermidor" width="640" /><br /><br /><img alt="Salt & Crab Seafood Dining in Clark, Pampanga - salted egg crab" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpcspIt1uvmJMtmDpjYMb3o3Jyt8pLknYgwD0WQWxr-28UQtg_1WVWIsNEsVuoSwaZjxiseBCRNP46Oi3ruItW2dG37ti8M770Fs5JYbHHGSExJnl08xeHkijfQs9tM4e-ieFuHY8hCew/s640/%255BUNSET%255D" title="Salt & Crab Seafood Dining in Clark, Pampanga - salted egg crab" width="640" /><br /><br />The food is okay. There's no "wow" factor. When our bill came, we were surprised with the total price of what we had just eaten. It was P4,020! Good thing they're accepting credit cards. My husband and I are still laughing because we had paid much for a single dining experience we didn't exactly enjoy. Believe it or not, we're still practically frugal. The price could be reasonable if it's a fine-dining <a href="http://www.anjspeaks.life/search/label/Restaurant%20Reviews" target="_blank">restaurant</a> and the food is outstanding.<br /><h3>
Verdict</h3>
</div>
<div>
We're still open to returning to this place someday, but only if it would be a treat by a generous friend or a relative. I'm highlighting the "generous" part.</div>

Fairy tales, like fairies, aren't real. No prince would spend his whole time thinking and looking for that one woman he met in the woods or at his party. No man would give up his life for a woman he met a few days ago. No one would give up his entire fortune for that "true love's kiss."<br />

<br /><div>You'll meet that "perfect soulmate" at a certain point in your life. The good news, it happens to almost everyone. Bad news, nobody's perfect, even that Prince Charming of yours. We all know that humans always tend to act as behaved as possible to give an excellent first impression. Imagine yourself as his "job interview." If he successfully gets the job, it's just a matter of months or years before he gets too comfortable and relaxed while his effort for his work gradually declines. Then there comes the phase I love to call "Stage 3".</div>

"Stage 3" is the phase in relationships and marriages where couples experience ultimate dryness. It's when you wonder where the person you once loved has gone. This stage usually lasts for months and even years if you survive. Most young couples tend to look at this differently and choose to end the challenge early. If you're currently in this stage, you may try to work it out as hard as possible. I hate to break this to you- but you'll most likely fail.<br />
<br />
Why? Because to overcome "Stage 3", you and your partner/husband need to accept and understand it clearly.<br />
<br /><b>1. Stage 3 happens to almost every couple on earth, even the perfect ones. </b>Chewing gum won't always be sweet. After a few minutes of chewing it, it'll lose its taste. A cup of coffee won't always be hot. It'll eventually get cold and lose its essence.<br />
<br />
<div><b>2. Stage 3 is emotional and mental torture.</b> You'd always find yourself reminiscing the times when he was still that good-looking guy-next-door who's so obsessed with you. You'd miss the roses, chocolates, and late night / early morning texts to check out on you. In general, you'd miss the time when he was still in love with you. Don't get me wrong. "I'm in love with her" and "I love her" are entirely different.<br />
<br /><b>3. Stage 3 is your relationship purgatory.</b> You can decide if your marriage is still worth fighting at this stage. If he acknowledges that there's a problem going on and if he's willing to help work it out, it's a good sign. If he constantly denies it and puts all the blame on you, then it's time to stop.<br />
<b><br />4. Stage 3 isn't about having a third party. </b>If you think this is just "Stage 3" because he's having an affair with someone else, then you're 1,001 percent wrong. Time to leave. No reason to re-think your options. "A cheater will always be a cheater" is continuously proven by millions of women worldwide. If you're married, suing him is the perfect way to protect your rights.<br />
<br /><b>5. Stage 3 is the perfect time to mature and learn how to control your emotions. </b>I get it. Stage 3 makes you and your feelings tear into pieces. But eventually, you'll realize that you're already poisoning yourself, your job, and the people around you. If you can last a day or two without crying or feeling depressed about your partner, you're only a few steps away from maturity.<br />
<br /><b>6. Stage 3 can be your biggest challenge. </b>If you successfully overcame this phase still intact, you're one of the few couples who could no longer be threatened by the most common marriage problems like money, in-laws, pride, work, priorities, etc. You'll be as vigorous and happier as ever. But if you get stuck and feel like there's no progress, you can flip the "emotion switch" anytime and see how it goes without touching it.<br />
<br />
<h3>
How I Got Out of Stage 3</h3>
Our Stage 3 occurred from our 3rd year of being together and 1st year of being married (2008) to our first child's 1st year (2014). I got stuck and spent most of those years begging for attention and trying everything to return to the days we were so in love. Six years have passed, and I finally realized there's no way I could relive those moments. Besides, there was a time in 2011 when he told me that he had just grown and become more mature. He left me. He left me alone in our dreamland.<br />
<br />
Before my first son was born, I asked God to help me transfer all the unnecessary love from my husband to our son. That's what happened after he was born. It felt like a switch flipped. It felt amazing. For the first time in forever, the unconditional love I was offering to another human felt right.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But my journey was not that easy. Happy couples on TV used to break me even more. There were many times when I had to turn all my emotions off so I wouldn't feel anything. I was that tired.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0xkFyLD4ypEquvmXQKeid3HpBGLUzPowSfJQA_xkOsdhbGFaRfF61tmccetvSX-hYjW-olLXyBMi9Sy2theBaDd9dTSaOieDGmZGnMaIFe4ZgFfu1QrKEyjTe-ei_L58iCB0p_1aNRhs/s1600/elena+gilbert+gif.gif" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="281" data-original-width="500" height="358" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0xkFyLD4ypEquvmXQKeid3HpBGLUzPowSfJQA_xkOsdhbGFaRfF61tmccetvSX-hYjW-olLXyBMi9Sy2theBaDd9dTSaOieDGmZGnMaIFe4ZgFfu1QrKEyjTe-ei_L58iCB0p_1aNRhs/s640/elena+gilbert+gif.gif" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />
<br />
I currently don't have any grudge toward my husband. I'm just learning to accept that not everyone can understand what unconditional is. Or maybe some people are just being too honest to think about love and would rather spend their entire energy doing more important things for their ego and money.<br />
<br />
We're okay. We're happy as a family, especially now that we have just welcomed a baby girl. I spend my entire time caring for the kids and working as an online freelancer for more than 100 hours per week. See what I did there? No space for unnecessary thoughts.<br />
<br />
Fairy tales always end at weddings. Now, we all know why.<br />

<br />
I'm a work-at-home mom and am the breadwinner of my family. I work more than 150 hours a week, so iPad has become a babysitter for my son since he was 2. Despite my sister's continuous warnings about the harmful effects of too much screen time for kids, I didn't listen because I had no choice. Now, my son suffered the consequences.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><div>We're now starting to see the effects my sister, a pediatrician, had been telling us even though we already banned our son from using his iPad before his 4th birthday last December. His addiction to Bendy and the Ink Machine, a demonic character he watched on Youtube all day, worried us a lot.</div><div><br /></div><div>We also noticed his eyes had started to blink excessively. I wasn't sure if it was because of dryness or staying up late every night. Some say he might need to wear eyeglasses soon, while others say it was just a "mannerism." Guess what? After a month of no gadgets, his excessive blinking had already lessened.</div><div><br /></div><div>The worst effect of too much screen time we're seeing now is my son's speech delay. Yes, he can talk, but 50% of his words are still "baby talk," and he's having difficulty with conversations. We already had him professionally assessed by two Developmental Pediatricians twice - first when he was one and second when he was 3. He has no autism nor ADHD. The results revealed that he only had a "speech delay" caused by his unlimited use of gadgets. This was also why we failed to enroll him in school last year.</div><div><br /></div><div>His speech is getting better after the "gadget ban." He now asks questions, and he's more responsive to casual talks. He's spending more time with his dad in our car wash, playing and talking with the customers.</div>
<br />If you're a parent using gadgets to babysit, I'm telling you now- STOP. <a href="http://www.anjspeaks.life/search/label/Parenting" target="_blank">Parenting</a> can be hard at times; there are no shortcuts, and there isn't too much room for mistakes. Buy them <a href="https://amzn.to/3RUAThe">children's books</a> and <a href="https://amzn.to/3JfwDoR">educational toys</a> instead. Your kids will someday thank you for it.<br /><br />

<div>
<br /></div>
Matam-ih Authentic Kapampangan Cuisine is one of a few underrated restaurants in Pampanga. Matam-ih, an Aeta dialect meaning delicious, isn't exaggerating. This is the best restaurant to try if you're looking for authentic Kapampangan dishes with no artificial flavors and for very reasonable prices.<br />
<a name='more'></a><div>
<br />
It was already our second time having dinner at Matam-ih last January 8, 2018. During our first visit six months ago, my husband and I fell in love with their Tamarind Shake. All their shakes are made of fresh fruits; my husband loved it even though he's not really into shakes, smoothies, or anything similar. So imagine our disappointment when it was not available during our second visit. So instead, we just ordered their other available flavors - buko, mango, and watermelon. You'll love their fresh watermelon shake!<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div><div>We appreciate that most of their staff are Aetas. The woman who served us was a bit shy, and I could tell she got a bit nervous when I politely asked her to take a picture of my family and me. She's nice. I was trying to make her comfortable by befriending her, but I think that made her feel uneasier, so I just left her alone.</div><div><br /></div><div>We were a bit surprised when the food came. We almost forgot that Matam-ih Authentic Kapampangan Cuisine servings are bigger. Their "good for 2" means "good for 4". We ordered Sinigang na Baboy and Inihaw na Hito. Their buro, which was served with the hito, is a must-try! We brought our leftovers home and ate them at lunch and dinner the next day.</div></div>

<div>
The place is fantastic. I can't imagine going back there during the summer since the dining area has no air conditioning. The tiny insects are forgivable since there are plants everywhere. There's a KTV room at the side which I didn't get to see. But this is a perfect place for you if you love photo shoots and Instagram-worthy shots.</div><div><br /></div>

<h3>
Verdict</h3>
Of course, we'll return to Matam-ih Authentic Kapampangan Cuisine soon. We can't wait to recommend this restaurant to our family from Manila finally. Since they're 50 percent Kampampangan like me, I'm sure they'll love it.<br />

<br />
My son returned from the hospital two days ago due to Acute Gastroenteritis. It all happened so fast. It started at 4:00 in the morning of January 23 when he woke us up and vomited his entire meal from the previous night. He was complaining and kept on pointing at his tummy. We thought he had difficulty digesting the "Sinigang na Salmon" he ate for dinner.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br /><div>After vomiting everything he had in his stomach, he started to poop everywhere. He could no longer control it. After trying to rehydrate him with Pedialyte for a few hours, I immediately asked my husband to take him to the hospital.</div><div><br /></div><div>Unfortunately, I couldn't go with them because we had a 4-month-old baby who couldn't be near the viruses and bacteria lurking inside the hospital. I immediately called my mom to go to the hospital as well, in case my husband would need an extra hand.</div><div><br /></div><div>He was immediately admitted to Jecsons Medical Center. He was still vomiting and crying because of his stomach pain. He received an IV and a few medications to ease the pain somehow.</div><div><br /></div><div>Imagine the frustration of a mom who couldn't go to his suffering child. I was holding on to the fact that he's with his dad and his grandma.</div><div><br /></div><div>After two and a half days of waiting for the findings, the resident pediatrician finally told my husband that it was indeed Acute Gastroenteritis. According to them, it could be from the service water he drank at <a href="http://www.anjspeaks.life/2018/01/matam-ih-clark-pampanga-restaurant-review.html" target="_blank">Matam-ih Authentic Kapampangan Cuisine</a> where we had our dinner before it happened. I'm not blaming the restaurant at all. It's just that maybe there was something in the water my 4-year-old kid's stomach couldn't handle.</div><div><br /></div><div>He got discharged on the 4th day. His appetite is still poor today, but his behavior is already back to normal. He's still taking his take-home meds, but I can say that he's already ninety percent healed.</div>
<br />
<h4>
Here are some things I learned from this traumatic incident:</h4><div>1. Always bring a bottle or two of distilled water for your kid/s. Never trust <a href="http://www.anjspeaks.life/search/label/Restaurant%20Reviews" target="_blank">restaurants</a>' service water even though they say it's mineral, purified, or distilled. I used to have a bag full of distilled water for my son whenever we went out. But since he's already 4, we thought it's okay to introduce him to other food and water slowly. It wasn't a good idea.</div><div>2. If you have kids, always ensure that you have at least 2 or 3 bottles of Pedialyte (or any other oral rehydration solutions) at home.</div><div>3. Give your kids Vitamin C and Multivitamins daily. My son couldn't drink his vitamins for two days prior to his hospitalization. Not sure if this is connected, but who knows? These supplements strengthen and improve one's immunity system and overall health. Maybe if his daily vitamins had protected him, the Rotavirus wouldn't be able to do much damage.</div><div>4. If severe vomiting prevents your child from absorbing his oral rehydration, immediately take him to the hospital. Don't ever hesitate. <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1764079/" target="_blank">Many children had already died due to Acute Gastroenteritis</a> and severe dehydration.</div><div>5. Make sure that your kid's Rotavirus Vaccine is updated.</div>
6. <a href="http://www.anjspeaks.life/search/label/Parenting" target="_blank">Parenting</a> is never easy.<br />

<br />
I've been hearing a lot of mixed feedback about The Northern Cup Cafe for months, and finally, last January 4, 2018, we were able to visit the place. It is located at Phase 1 Barangay Cristo Rey, Capas, Tarlac. Why did I call this a hidden gem?<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><div>First, the Northern Cup Cafe is in a place not accessible to everyone. Those living in nearby towns and cities, especially those without cars, indeed have no idea that this cafe exists. Why would they visit a small cafe far from civilization if they have? Surprisingly, the Northern Cup Cafe is often seen by people from different places, including soldiers from a nearby Military Base and travelers from Manila.</div><div><br /></div><div>At first, you'll think that there's nothing extraordinary about it. However, sitting inside, you'll see that every corner of the cafe, inside and out, is Instagram-worthy. No dull areas.</div>

The quality of service still has much room for improvement. I have no problem with the "pay as you order" policy, but the waiting time and how the staff serves food need some improvement. We didn't appreciate that everything was served one by one, approximately one food per 5 to 10 minutes. But then again, everything is affordable here, so we couldn't complain.<br />
<br />
<h3>
Verdict</h3>
We'll definitely go back to the Northern Cup Cafe with the whole squad soon.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6271886187037855806.post-2823264513803698242018-01-15T08:00:00.001+08:002022-07-23T20:05:19.270+08:00Secret Garden Resto and Cafe in Baguio City Review: Is it Worth it?<img alt="secret garden resto and cafe baguio city" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiuTrOUrbOihJ5nTF8JnIVTM8bC0cMO_-7Mhxz8eSFftNvPJiiU3Ahfwf4TH8vmDuAPSsbIyhhb3l-x04axVsKdv6fZZMvODwrtiaXIVfnknKE-7L-oqn_7fnNnV6mltiIs6CYZ7qVm_A/s640/%255BUNSET%255D" title="secret garden resto and cafe baguio city" width="640" /><br />

I saw somewhere on the internet that Secret Garden Resto and Cafe is one of the top ten most loved restaurants in Baguio City. After exhausting all our energy in Santa's Village at the Manor last January 2, we went there to eat dinner.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><div>We had to use Waze to find the place. It's at 34 Paterno Street, South Drive Road, Baguio City.</div><div><br /></div><div>No proper parking area and the street wasn't well-lit. We still went inside, thinking the food may be worth it since the restaurant is on someone's top 10 list.</div><div><br /></div><div>As the blogger behind the list recommended, we ordered Seafood Pasta, Beef Steak, Steamed Fish, and their Best-Selling Pizza (I forgot the name, sorry!).</div><div><br /></div>

<br /><div>Their serving sizes are small, aside from the veggies and fruits for their plating tricks. If you have a "deep stomach," Secret Garden isn't your place.</div><div><br /></div><div>I love their steamed Cream Dory and their Pizza. The Seafood Pasta- not so much. I was tired of taking care of the shrimps and mussels before I could enjoy them. For someone who's been enjoying unlimited steaks in Pampanga for only P399 since last year, I would give their P450 Beef Steak a 3.5 out of 5 ratings. Same quality and taste, just the price.</div><div><br /></div><div>About the service - the waitresses were friendly and respectful. We had a hard time getting their attention since they were all gathered in one place, and all we could see were their backs.</div>
<br />
<h3>
Verdict</h3>
Although we enjoyed some of their food, I don't think my husband and I would agree to return to Secret Garden anytime soon. A bit pricey for the quality and serving.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6271886187037855806.post-83755183342142550592018-01-08T05:16:00.001+08:002022-07-23T20:01:57.743+08:00Grand Sierra Pines Hotel in Baguio City Review: Still Our Favorite!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Like last year, we spent our first three days of 2018 in our favorite city - Baguio. We booked a Superior Room in Grand Sierra Pines Hotel for two nights through Agoda.<br />
<br />

The first time was in June 2016, when I made a surprise family trip for my husband's birthday. It was all worth it. The hotel staff even helped me plan a little surprise for hubby. When we settled in our room a few minutes after our arrival, they came with Baguio's famous strawberry shortcake, a few balloons, and a birthday card while singing Happy Birthday. It wasn't free, though - I paid P2,500 for that. But hubby was touched and happy, so it was all worth it.<br />

<br /><div>We were a bit surprised with the new additions and improvements to the hotel - there's already a fitness gym, a playground, a bar, etc. This is probably why their room rates are now higher. I remember paying Php7,000 plus the last two years for two nights instead of Php11,584.88.</div><div><br /></div><div>I have to comment on how their housekeeping staff handled the used cups. When I was about to make coffee on our second morning, I saw that there were still some cream build-ups on the spoons and cups. Then I realized that they weren't using any proper dishwashing stuff when they took the cups inside the bathroom after I called them the previous day to clean our room. Maybe replace them with clean ones instead of washing them in the bathroom sink?</div>
<br />

<br />
A lot has happened over the past 12 months. Instead of making a complete list of "New Year's Resolutions" I wouldn't be able to follow, I'll make a summary of everything that happened to me this 2017.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<h4>
1. After posting my 2017 goals on Facebook last January 2017, which included having a new baby, we found out I was pregnant.</h4><div>We struggled with infertility for eight years. I had PCOS and stage 4 endometriosis before I got pregnant with our first child, which left one of my ovaries to stop functioning. We used to think that the only way to get pregnant again was to undergo another fertility treatment.</div><div><br /></div><div>The only reason I took a pregnancy test last January 27, 2017, was to ensure everything's good before taking a slimming pill. Imagine our surprise when the test came out positive.</div>
<h4>
2. I finally got one of my dream dog breeds - a Shetland Sheepdog.</h4>
A dog owner gave up his Shetland Sheepdog because he could no longer care for him. We renamed the dog after my favorite character from How to Get Away with Murder - Frank. Unfortunately, we found out that he had been suffering from Heartworm and the treatment for this breed is different from usual. Before the vet could lay her hand on that "special medication," Frank suddenly lost the battle.<br />
<br />
<h4>
3. I landed a better-paying full-time project on Upwork.</h4>
The rate for this project is higher than my previous bids, and it's 80 hours per week. I also had other projects at the same time, so I got busier and was able to save up more money for my delivery and other goals.<br />
<br />
<h4>
4. My husband and I successfully started a car wash in our own garage.</h4>
It all started with the online selling of car care products. Eventually, my husband tested his luck by offering car detailing services by appointment. After a few months, he hired my mom's farm caretaker to help him wash cars, and they officially opened the gates for walk-in customers.<br />
<br />
<h4>
5. I successfully convinced my husband to leave his car club.</h4><div>This may sound inappropriate for some, but I wouldn't do this for no reason. My husband was slowly getting obsessed with his group, buying everything he saw from his co-members, spending too much on lunch or dinner meetings (what were those meetings for, anyway?), and spending too much time on his cellphone and nonsense group chat.</div><div><br /></div><div>Our weekends were no exceptions. Their team leader would always call my husband for a chit-chat. Another team leader from Pampanga, a lady, had also created a separate group chat and added my husband plus 5 or 6 other men so she could share everything she was doing with her daily life. This wasn't jealousy, but exchanging messages on the group chat was no longer healthy and necessary.</div><div><br /></div><div>Our family got saved after he left. My husband's sanity and perceptions came back to normal. He has more time now for his children.</div>
<br />
<h4>
6. We finally have a baby girl!</h4>
Having a baby girl was my dream. We're finally complete! Although my husband wants to have three more kids. Let's see.<br />
<br />
<h4>
7. My dad got hospitalized for 2 months, and it was serious.</h4><div>My dad is 87 years old and already bedridden. He was hospitalized from September to November due to a high fever and infection. While he was admitted to the Philippine Heart Center, he suffered a mild stroke and aspiration pneumonia.</div><div><br /></div><div>The bill and medications almost reached Php 500,000, and we were already worried about how we could afford that. Fortunately, he got better, and his 18 doctors finally allowed him to get discharged and continue his medications at home. We, fortunately, received some "assistance" from two government agencies.</div><div><br /></div><div>Before he got hospitalized, my nephew's (my sister's 24-year-old son with cerebral palsy) nanny was the one taking care of him. After he got discharged from the hospital, we finally found and hired a caregiver who'll focus on his needs, especially now that he's being fed thru a Nasogastric tube.</div>
<br />
<h4>
8. Improvements in our kitchen and living room were done.</h4>
We started the renovations last March and wrapped up the day before I gave birth last September. The reason it lasted for six months was that there was only one man who did all the job. He couldn't find anyone to work as his helper; apparently, he's more comfortable alone.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6271886187037855806.post-49307285357466132962017-12-27T03:46:00.002+08:002022-07-23T19:50:22.609+08:00ABC Hotel in Angeles City Review: Not for Everyone!<br />

This hotel booking was made by my sister-in-law last month before she received her US Visa, thinking she and her two kids would still be spending Christmas here in the Philippines. Before their flight last December 18, 2017, she gave me this 2-night hotel accommodation for December 23 to 25. It's a complimentary stay in one of the most expensive hotels in Angeles City. Who was I to refuse?<br />

He's right.</div><div><br /></div><div>And as for the stuff inside the ref and drawers, you might want to keep them out of your children's reach. First, they're primarily for adults. Second, they were costly! A coke can cost Php100!</div>

<br /><div>The accommodation doesn't have a complimentary breakfast. The price of their meals starts at Php 400. So it's good that restaurants and food stores surround the hotel.</div><div><br /></div><div>We can see the pool, garden, and bar from our window.</div>

<br /><div>On our second day, we left the hotel to celebrate Christmas eve somewhere else. Before leaving, I ensured we locked our suitcases because we wanted to request some tidying inside our room. I put in a random code and placed it inside the drawer.</div><div><br /></div><div>When we got back, the lock was in "000". We couldn't think of anything else but the idea that maybe someone had tried to open our suitcase. But since we were about to check out, we let it go again.</div>

<br />
<h3>
Verdict</h3><div>This hotel isn't suited for kids and families. It's perfect for partying couples without kids. Php12,968.30 for two nights is a bit pricey considering ABC Hotel isn't for everyone. Obviously, they built that hotel mainly for foreigners.</div><div><br /></div><div>Secondly, after what happened to our suitcase, I won't be personally recommending the place.</div></div>

<div><div>It was my eldest son's 4th birthday last December 14. Instead of throwing him a party, we decided to take the opportunity to have a family vacation out of town. I picked Tagaytay for a change, booked a Deluxe Room in Taal Vista Hotel for December 13 to 15 through Agoda, planned the whole trip, and excitedly waited another 2-3 weeks.</div><div><br /></div><div>December 13 - it was already 8 pm when we arrived at the hotel to check-in. We were stunned by the elegance of the main lobby and other areas surrounding their Christmas tree.</div></div><div>

And the disappointment came. After walking to the Mountain Wing, we realized there were no elevators. Just stairs.<br />

We stayed optimistic even though we got lost. The hotel staff carrying our bags wasn't with us because they had a "different route."<br />

<br /><div>The room? Oh, the room. It was "okay." Dust on the corners of the room, two flies warmly welcomed us. What a start! I prefer carpeted rooms, especially since my son tends to pull many acrobatic stunts from time to time, so a dusty tiled floor is a minus for me.</div><div><br /></div><div>Honestly, I've been to different hotels with better, cleaner, and more comfortable rooms. They're even more affordable than this one. So I guess we paid for the hotel's history and facade.</div></div>

Back to the positive stuff - their complimentary breakfast buffet was excellent! From different loaves of bread, salads, rice dishes, and soups to fruits, it's definitely for everyone! I wasn't able to take pictures of the buffet, but I was able to capture the areas surrounding the Veranda (the breakfast area).</div>

<h3>
Verdict:</h3>
<div>
I love the hotel, not the room/s. For Php 10,000 a night, maybe the hotel staff needs to re-check every room and their definition of cleanliness.<br />
